And because controversial people talking about sex and gender issues seems to be all the rage this week—
What Daniel Tosh did was NOT OKAY and should not be condoned as “humor.” What happened was that a man made a joke, a woman took offense to it, and the man told a room full of people, including that woman, that it would be funny if she were raped. A man felt threatened by a woman and decided it would be good if she were raped. By “like five guys.” Are you SHITTING ME LSKDjflasdjkflasdjkflakjfdlaskjfdlasjdk no I am NOT going to back down on this. Yeah, I can take a fucking joke as well as the next person, but it’s just not okay for a man to tell a woman that he would be amused if she were sexually assaulted. That in itself is verbal abuse.
And it’s especially not okay if he has a very popular comedy show whose main audience is young men. Seriously. Is that the message we as a society want to send to males between the ages of 14-24? That sexual assault (especially of the five-men-assaulting-one-woman variety) is amusing? I sure as fuck hope not.
And don’t tell me to calm down and let it pass by because it doesn’t affect me. It fucking DOES, okay. This perpetuates rape culture and I’m a woman and I get catcalled at all the fucking time and it is not funny, flattering, or in fact do anything other than make me super uncomfortable. So fuck off. I’m pissed and don’t tell me I shouldn’t be.
